Sumo5 was created for the purpose of assisting companies that operate in the sectors of industrial plant design in the management, definition and quantification of materials relating to piping supports; the system performs the count and elaborates the summaries in order to obtain the list of the materials for procurement and construction.

Starting from the company know-how, and from the blueprints of the supports, the system envisages the management of:

• the standard supports, common to all projects, organized on three levels: base components, drawings and supports.
• 'special' supports, whose implementation is specific to a project.
• supports with parameterized dimensions; this type allows the definition of supports whose dimensions are unknown a priori and will be determined during the design phases.

After having defined and quantified the supports necessary for the realization of the project (manually or by importing them from a CAD application), Sumo5 elaborates the counts and the summaries of the materials - both for the supports and for the base components - organizing them in accordance with various grouping criteria which may be defined by the user.

The formulation of personalized reports constitutes a valid aid during the activities of planning and managerial control; furthermore - within the same project - it is possible to manage the history log of the counts (takeoffs) with the possibility of making comparisons between the various revisions.
